Orc, Beserker which, trust me, you will always want and you will always need.
High Elf, permanent magicka bonus and the highborn power which at any level or part in the game you will always find useful. Most of the race powers because redundant mid-game. But these race powers cannot be replicated in the game which is why they are the best.
"In the long run" it absolutely does not matter though because you will be too powerful to be opposed anyways. Either High Elf, Orc or Breton (Argonian if you're into that kind of stuff ).
